One of the biggest complaints among teenagers is that of Acne. Red spots form easily on the face, not responding to common medication. And those who do manage to conquer acne are left with scars bad enough to throw their social life out of order. If you too are affected by acne, don’t worry. It might take some time, but there are several treatments for acne that have worked for countless people. Before we begin, though, it’d be helpful to first look at the common causes and understand acne in a little more detail.
What causes acne?
Acne is basically a type of skin aggravation in which the hair follicles of the face are over-stimulated. This happens mostly to teenager as the hormonal balance of their bodies is shifting during that time. There is no one underlying cause for acne, but it has been known to develop because of pressure (from helmet straps, etc.), exposure to certain chemicals, use of harmful substances in cosmetic products, and some of the drugs. Interestingly, junk food and heredity have almost nothing to do with acne.
What preventive measures can be taken?
- Wash your face with clean water and a good-quality soap or face wash at least 3-4 times a day. This helps remove dirt and oil from the face and prevents the acne from growing worse.
- If possible, avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. While it will not contribute to acne, strong sunlight can irritate the skin pores and make the pain worse.
- Do not scratch or scrub the pimples, and definitely don’t burst them. This will just make the acne worse and leave behind deep scars.
- Avoid any sun screen lotions, creams and other cosmetic products for the time being. Basically, you want to avoid anything that clogs up the skin pores and delays the treatment.
